5-star QB Colin Hurley Reclassifies to 2025 to 2024 & Commits to LSU

LSU’s big recruiting weekend for the Alabama game got off to a blazing start Friday when four-star quarterback Colin Hurley committed to Brian Kelly. The news got even more significant when the 2025 prospect confirmed he would reclassify to the 2024 class, giving the Tigers one of the nation’s best signal callers for the next recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot, 213-pounder from Jacksonville, Florida, was the No. 3 quarterback in the 2025 class and will be re-ranked for 2024.

Hurley visited LSU for the Southern game in early September and greatly appreciated what the Tigers offered.

“What a visit,” Hurley said at the time.

“This trip marked my fourth visit to LSU, and it’s only gotten better each time. This visit included a game-day experience, so it was a bit different. The moniker “Death Valley…There’s No Place Like It,” is so true. What a special place and experience.

“Tiger Stadium is massive,” he added. “The fans were super-hyped and love LSU football. The tailgating went on for miles. Tiger Walk was a parade of purple and gold. The flyover was performed by Tuskegee style aircraft. What a crazy good time. It was everything I thought it would be – and more.”

Landing a quarterback with Hurley’s pedigree this early in the process was a major coup for quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock. The attention to detail on his previous visit played a key role.

“My family and I met with Coach Kelly on game day,” Hurley said. “He welcomed my mom home from Africa, and we spoke about everything, like football, campus life, the game day experience, academics, and the culture at LSU. He spoke about standards and how he sees the “organizational health” of the program. Coach Kelly spent considerable time with us this trip, but he’s always set aside time for me, and we speak on the phone too. He’s treated me with the utmost respect.

“Coach Denbrock and Coach Sloan are great too. We talk a lot of Xs & Os. Those guys are football nerds and we could go on forever together. The reiterated that, they’ve evaluated me in the Class of ‘25 and ‘24 and feel the overall body of work and package I bring is the most impressive in either class. They are very personable with me and make sure I’m doing well in the other spaces outside of football.

“Jon Randall Belton, Destiny Wilson, and Jordan Arcement are great with the recruiting process. They treat me, and my family, like family. Talk about feeling wanted; that group is amazing.”

Hurley will be in Baton Rouge this weekend for the Alabama game.
