LSU Not Ranked, But Even Fall Lower Outside of Top 25 – USA TODAY

The Tigers took quite a hit in the USA TODAY Sports rankings of all 131 FBS teams last week, and despite the big win, they fell even further in this week’s edition. LSU (1-1) now sits at No. 56, three spots lower than last week’s rankings from Paul Myerberg.

It’s disappointing to see after a performance against the Jaguars that was impressive, even given the quality of the opponent. The Tigers scored 37 points in the first quarter, the most in a single quarter in program history.

However, they’ll have the chance to rise in the rankings quite this week. Mississippi State (No. 38) comes to Baton Rouge to open SEC play on Saturday night, fresh off a road win against Arizona. A win in that game — as a home underdog, no less — would go a long way to rehabilitate the national perception of this year’s Tigers team.
