A Veteran receiver transferred from UTSA to LSU

LSU’s wide receiver room got a little bit deeper this week with the addition of receiver Gregory Clayton Jr.

Clayton hails from Lutcher, Louisiana, and started his FBS career with UTSA. He was a three-star in the class of 2018 and held offers from Purdue and Iowa State. He ended up going the JUCO route before landing at UTSA, where he appeared in two games, both during the 2020 season.

With the Roadrunners, he saw some time on special teams and defense. It’s not clear what his exact role with LSU will be, but adding Clayton continues to build up a roster that was in desperate need of bodies.

The Tigers are deep at wide receiver, so it probably would make more sense for Clayton to stick with that defense and special teams role.

With LSU’s depth issues, it would be ideal to not have starters seeing that many snaps on special teams. If Clayton can become a reliable presence on coverage teams, it’ll be a win for the team this fall.
