Ed Orgeron is off to a rough start this season with 2 losses already, and his job security is increasingly in trouble.
There are some, like Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, who are looking ahead to the post-Orgeron leadership at LSU, and what candidates the program may look at in the offseason and beyond. Thamel recently reported on the situation at LSU with Orgeron, and noted that around the college sports industry, the LSU job opening has evolved from a possibility to a near inevitability.
“The obvious is the obvious,” said James Carville, a longtime political strategist and former LSU faculty member with deep ties in the state. “It’s not complicated. I don’t think that’s news to anyone.”
Thamel explains that LSU athletic director Scott Woodward has always been a star chaser, and will likely look for high-profile names if the situation presents itself.
Who would Woodward target? The list will be short, as there aren’t many coaches who have the credentials, personality and coaching chops to handle LSU. Expect Woodward to go after Fisher, Penn State’s James Franklin or Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
